How to Write a Check Made Out for Cash
- 1). Write the word "Cash" on the line to the right of the words "Pay to the order of."
- 2). Write the dollar amount in numerals to the right of this line, after the dollar sign. For example, write "50.00" or "14.35."
- 3). Fill in the date on the line above the dollar amount. Avoid postdating a check, because the bank may not cash it. Postdating a check occurs when you write a future date instead of the current date.
- 4). Spell out the dollar amount in letters instead of numerals on the long line underneath "Pay to the order of." Follow this with the amount of cents in numerals. For example, write "Twenty-five dollars and 00/100." If there is still space left on the line, draw a line with your pen across to the end. This helps prevent someone else from altering the amount of the check.
- 5). Sign your name on the bottom right-hand line.
