Plover
Definition:
(noun) A type of shorebird characterized by a short, straight bill, relatively short neck, round head, compact body and large, pointed wings. Plovers are quick and active shorebirds near water lines, where they will sprint several paces before stopping abruptly to probe the sand for insects, larvae and crustaceans.
Plover species include the killdeer, semipalmated plover, piping plover, northern lapwing and snowy plover.
