How to Check the Fluid Level in a Powerglide Transmission
- 1). Park the vehicle on a level surface. Make sure the vehicle is in park.
- 2). Turn on the engine and let it idle for a few minutes, if it's not already warmed up.
- 3). Open the hood and clean off dirt around the transmission dipstick with a cloth. The transmission dipstick is usually located near the transmission. On many vehicles, you'll have to reach down a bit to grab the dipstick. Wear protective gloves if necessary.
- 4). Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth.
- 5). Switch off the engine and insert the dipstick back into the casing.
- 6). Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level. The right level will be reached when the fluid reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
- 7). Place a transmission funnel in the transmission fluid aperture and pour in some fluid.
- 8). Remove the funnel and replace the dipstick in the aperture.
- 9). Remove the dipstick and check fluid levels, wiping off with a cloth.
- 10
Repeat this procedure until the fluid reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
