Function

• Players must take several steps to cook each dish by using a preset list of ingredients, and they receive a rating based on how well they perform in both speed and accuracy. Players need to be fast, but they also must correctly complete the actions required to put together each plate. Winning unlocks more recipes and battles against chefs from other regions, each with a dish specialty.
  
  

Controls

• Players use the Wii remote to perform the actions on the screen. For example, a player might toss some butter into a dish with Wii remote and then tilt the controller to coat the pan. The player might next chop vegetables with quick chopping motions of the Wii remote before grinding meat by holding the controller sideways like a handle. The buttons are used to advance to other screens after the cooking is completed.

• Nintendo released "Cooking Mama" for the Wii on March 20, 2007, with a suggested retail price of $49.99. As of 2010, the game could be found for much cheaper prices at retail stores.
  
  

Modes

• Players can battle against the computer or on splitscreen against the other player. No online play is offered with this title.
  
  

Types

• Other "Cooking Mama" games have been released on the Nintendo DS and for mobile phones. The DS version was the first of this series and makes use of the stylus peripheral to allow players a unique control scheme. For example, a player might rub the stylus across the screen to cut a head of lettuce in half.

• The Entertainment Software Rating Board rates the Wii game as "E" for "Everyone." This means that "Cooking Mama" is appropriate for players of all ages.
