Care for Varthane Wood Floors
- Caring for a Varathane-treated wood floor does not involve doing major work. Sweep with a broom to easily trap dirt and grit. Vacuum with a canister vac with bare floor attachments to help get rid of dirt and dust. Use a dust mop with a 12- to 18-inch cotton head. Spray a special dust mop treatment onto the mop head 12 to 24 hours before mopping. You can use a damp mop after sweeping but don't use chemicals in the water and don't swamp the floor with too much water, as it may warp the wood over time. Use the proper cleaning pads with the manufacturer's recommended cleaning solution; the pad should be slightly damp and well rung out.
Use pads or carpet on the bottoms of furniture to avoid scratching up the wood. Do not forget to regularly clean underneath furniture. If a couch or chair is left in the same place for a long time, there will be a dull, gray patch of floor where the furniture used to be.
Place area rugs in high traffic areas and make sure they are cleaned underneath often and are kept dry.
Never use wet mops, ammonia, dust cleaners, other floor cleaning products or wax urethane finishes. If dirt is tracked through the house, clean it up as soon as possible.
