How Do You Run Faster? 2 Killer Mistakes to Avoid When Training to Run Faster
So how do you run faster? The truth is that becoming quicker...
jumping higher...
and getting more "explosive"--is not hard.
Then why do so many athletes train for years and never improve a lick? Because they follow bad advice.
If you follow the "traditional" workout advice your coach told you, I guarantee you will never become quicker.
Even if you do it faithfully for years.
Here are 2 "killer" mistakes nearly every athlete makes...
and why you MUST avoid them if you want to see results.
MISTAKE #1)Training too long It's not that most athletes don't exercise "hard enough"-it's actually that they train TOO MUCH.
Being a gym rat might get you admiration from your fellow gym-goers but it's NOT how you run faster.
For some reason most people they think that not stopping a set until every last ounce of energy is drained is the way to go.
Baloney.
Don't work harder--work SMARTER Doing every set until you can't do another rep is the wrong way to exercise.
This will actually hurt you progress.
If your sets go any longer than 8 seconds, they are useless for becoming quicker.
Why? Because sprinting relies on the FAST TWITCH muscles.
Here's the catch-they can't operate for any longer than 8 seconds.
So what happens when your sets go longer than 8 seconds? Y our body automatically enacts the "slow twitch" or "endurance" muscles to help it keep going.
Your fast twitch muscles are out of the picture.
In other words...
anything you do after the first 8 seconds is just improving your endurance.
Not only are long sets meaningless...
they are actually HARMFUL because they sap valuable energy that could be put into the next set.
MISTAKE #2) Not resting long enough between sets I used to make this mistake all the time.
I would start the next set as soon as possible because I didn't want to be "lazy".
The result? I did the next set at 50% energy or less...
and it was a waste of time.
Remember-in order to achieve top sprinting speed you have to exert 100% of your energy.
If you hold back at all you won't achieve your full potential.
The same goes for you workouts.
To recap...
The answer to the original question "how do you run faster" is simple--train less...
and do every set with 100% energy.
Simple but lethal.
