How to Cover Up Interior Paneling

    • 1). Clean the interior paneling with household cleaner.

    • 2). Measure the height of the paneled wall from the top edge of the floor molding to the bottom edge of the crown molding or ceiling.

    • 3). Cut your choice of fabric into lengths that will fit the height of the paneled wall, plus 1 inch. Fold the top edge, the bottom edge and both side edges back 1/2 inch. Pin the seams in place. Iron the seams with starch so they are crisp. Remove the pins.

    • 4). Attach a strip of fabric to the paneled wall with a staple gun. Begin the paneling cover in a corner. Staple the fabric along the top and bottom of the paneled wall. Place the staples every 1 to 2 inches. After the top and bottom of the panel are secure, add several staples along the vertical seams. These staples will hold the fabric securely against the paneling.

    • 5). Attach the next strip of fabric so that it overlaps the first strip. If you are using patterned fabric, make sure that the pattern lines up. Also make sure that the staples along the vertical seam from the underlying fabric panel are covered. From this point on, do not staple the overlapped vertical seam. Continue adding fabric strips until the paneled wall is covered.

    • 6). Run a bead of hot glue along the overlapped seams that you did not staple.

    • 7). Cut a strip of trim or cording to fit across the top and the bottom of the wall. The trim should be wide enough to cover up the staples. Attach the trim to the fabric with a glue gun.
