    • 1). Select a suitable space in your home that you don't use that can be converted into a game room. A basement is a good choice because of its wide space. You can also choose an extra guestroom, a part of your living room or your garage.

    • 2). Measure your room to ensure that its dimensions enable your furniture, tables and equipment to physically fit in the room. The type of games you can play depend on the space available. A common feature of a game room is a pool table. However, because of a pool table's large size, it may not fit into small areas.

    • 3). Make an inspiration board that you will use to gather your thoughts and ideas together so that you may visualize how your room will look. The inspiration board should contain swatches of your preferred colors for the walls and samples of fabric for furniture or carpet. Photos of rooms you like can also be included for additional ideas. Don't forget to list the prices of such materials as paint and fabric.

    • 4). Pick a theme. Although a theme is not essential, it will add character to your room and pull everything together.
