Cleaning pet stains from your carpet can be frustrating not only because of the stain but also because of the odor.
If you spot the stain while it is still fresh, it can be much easier to remove.
However if the stain is hidden from your view, and you only noticed it some days or even weeks after your pet's accident, it can become difficult to remove both the stain and the odor.
Luckily, there are simple ways for you to deal with this problem and what's more is that you can do it yourself.
Here are some techniques on how to clean pet stains from your carpet.
If the stain is still fresh, the first thing you should do is to extract the area.
This can be done with a shop vac or you can blot the spot with an absorbent towel.
The purpose is to remove as much liquid as possible before you begin treatment.
Next, put a small amount of detergent on a towel and use it to blot the area.
Remember to never rub at any spots or stains in your carpet.
This will only make things worse.
Prepare a mixture containing 4 cups of warm water and half a cup of white vinegar.
Slowly pour it over the stain and then place dry, white towels over it.
You want the towel to absorb the mixture so it will be helpful to leave heavy objects such as books on top of it.
Leave it for 4 to 6 hours before removing the towels.
You will find that both the stain and the odor should be gone.
Try this method for older pet stains on your carpet.
Locate the stain first using a black light.
Urine tends to glow when under this kind of light.
Add 1 tablespoon of mild and non-alkaline detergent to 1 cup of warm water.
Once the detergent has been dissolved, slowly pour it over the stain.
Blot the spot with a clean absorbent towel.
After that, slowly pour another mixture, containing 1/3 cup of white vinegar and 2/3 cup of warm water, over the area.
Again, blot the area with dry towels.
Once you have done that, prepare a mixture of 1 tablespoon of mild detergent and 1 cup of water.
Dribble this over the stain and just like the process prior to this step; blot it with a dry towel.
Lastly, pour water over the area to rinse it and give it one last blotting.
See, it's not so hard to clean carpet stains - be it fresh or old.
You do not always need to hire a carpet cleaning service.
More times than not, you can do it yourself.
