How to Change an Alternator Belt on a 2002 KIA Sedona
- 1). Unfasten the negative battery cable on the Kia Sedona with an open-end wrench to prevent electric shock when changing the alternator belt. Place a wood block behind the rear driver's side wheel and loosen the lug nuts on the front passenger side wheel with a tire tool.
- 2). Lift the vehicle with a floor jack on the front passenger side and slide a jack stand under the front axle near the wheel. Lower the floor jack so the vehicle is resting on the jack stand and remove the lug nuts with the tire tool.
- 3). Set the wheel out of the way and pull the plastic splash shield inside the fender well away from the plastic clips on the vehicle frame with a screwdriver. Set the splash shield out of the way and locate the tensioner pulley and bolt on the engine from inside the fender well.
- 4). Loosen the bolt on the tensioner pulley with a socket wrench a couple of turns and adjust the tensioner bolt below the pulley, turning it counterclockwise with a socket wrench until you can take the serpentine belt off the alternator pulley by hand.
- 5). Remove the serpentine belt from the engine pulleys and set it out of the way. Place the new serpentine belt around the pulleys the same way the old one came off and turn the tensioner bolt clockwise with a socket wrench until the belt is tight.
- 6). Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt with a socket wrench and attach the plastic splash shield to the fender well with the plastic clips. Place the wheel back on the wheel hub and secure it with the lug nuts.
- 7). Lift the vehicle with the floor jack and remove the jack stand from under the axle. Lower the vehicle onto the ground and remove the floor jack.
- 8). Tighten the lug nuts with the tire tool and connect the negative battery cable to the battery post. Remove the wood block from the back wheel of the 2002 Kia Sedona.
