Keanu Reeves may have been the star of The Matrix, but one could argue that the Nokia 8110 played a huge supporting role, adding to the overall 'cool factor' of the film.
At the time, Nokia was a household name and one of the most widely used brands in the American cell phone arena.
Today, Nokia, much like soccer, appeals less to Americans and more to people in the rest of the world thanks to devices like the iPhone and practically anything running Android.
Nokia is looking to change that with the Nokia N8, a smart-phone that boasts some impressive specs and a re-tooled Symbian OS to better compete with offerings from Apple and Android.
The N8 is a stylish device that boasts impeccable build quality with metal touches around the surrounding the glass display, which makes the phone look more at home in an executive's briefcase than in a teenagers back pocket.
To add to the overall style of the device, Nokia used a 3.
5 inch AMOLED display at an acceptable resolution of 640x360.
While it would be nice to have a screen with a little higher pixel density, the Nokia N8 is still very bright and clear.
Many of the competing phones in the marketplace utilize a 5 to 8-megapixel camera, but Nokia upped the ante with a 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash.
This camera produces some extremely sharp images with accurate color.
It also shoots 720p video, which also looks clear and smooth.
Like Nokia, Symbian OS isn't widely used in America, but the revamped Symbian 3 tries to bring the user experience more in line with the offerings of Apple and Android.
Symbian 3 gives users up to three screens which can be customized with favorite apps or widgets.
It looks like Nokia designed the N8 with the business person in mind, and the software bears this out.
The N8 supports popular e-mail protocols like Exchange, Lotus Notes as well as POP3/IMAP.
Call quality on the Nokia N8 is clear on both ends utilizes a speakerphone that doesn't sound tinny.
Bluetooth headsets are also supported for people on the go.
If you happen to be on AT&T or T-Mobile, and are looking for a solid phone that's ready for business, the Nokia N8 is worth a look.
