Left-click repeatedly on any tree in the game to create wood. You will need 12 blocks of wood total.

Press "I" to open your inventory.

Hold down the left mouse button on a block of wood and drag it to the crafting grid. Place four blocks of wood in the 2-by-2 crafting grid this way to make the crafting table.

Select the crafting table in-game by using your mouse's scroll wheel and place it on the ground using the right mouse button. Right-click on the table to access the 3-by-3 crafting grid.

Place one wooden block directly on top of another one in the crafting grid to make a bundle of four sticks. Do this twice to receive eight sticks.

Place seven wooden sticks in the shape of an H on the 3-by-3 crafting grid. You will need three sticks on both the left and right side, and one stick in the middle. A ladder will be crafted.
