Roll on Deodorant
Roll on deodorant - what is it and how is it different from the other forms of deodorant that are available on the market today.
We will look at what other forms of deodorant are available and see if there are any advantages that come from using a roll on deodorant.
So firstly - what is a roll on deodorant, basically it is any make or brand of deodorant that is applied using a roll on applicator.
A roll on applicator is a device that uses a floating ball like head to distribute the deodorant on to the body when it is applied to the skin.
This type of applicator is not unique to deodorants but can also be used for antiperspirants, moisturisers, conditioners etc There are many other methods of applying deodorant:- Aerosol - these use pressurised gas to blow the deodorant onto the body.
They can be inefficient as they can distribute the deodorant over a wide, unfocussed area.
There are also some potential environmental issues with them as they can be carbon unfriendly (particularly if you use a brand that is not CFC free).
They are probably the most common form of deodorants.
Stick - similar in principal to a roll on deodorant but are formed from a waxy like lump of the deodorant that simply rubs onto the skin when pressure is applied.
They lack the fine control and even distribution that can be achieved through using a roll on deodorant.
Crystals- these are a more specialist form of application and hence tend not to be so common.
They are quite literally solid crystals that are applied (usually by shaking) directly onto the skin.
This form of application is most commonly found in specialist products and is most usually associated with products that deal with heavy or excessive sweating.
Pump action sprays - rather like aerosols but utilising a manual pressurisation action (i.
e.
hand pumping) rather than compressed gas to distribute the deodorant, because of this they tend to be far more environmentally friendly.
There are other, largely more esoteric, methods of getting the deodorant onto your body but the above list highlights the most commonly used options.
So back to the second question - are there any advantages form using a roll on deodorant?.
The answer certainly appears to be - yes, the reasons for this positive answer are as follows:- Finer control during application leading to more targeted use and therefore less waste More environmentally friendly as they do involve the use of greenhouse gases Smaller packaging as there is no need to store compressed gas.
This is really a double advantage as they require less space to store and due to the reduced packaging they are more environmentally friendly.
They are widely available; all stores will now stock them A very wide range of makes and brands are available - virtually all manufacturers offer a roll on variety As can be seen from the above list there are several compelling reason to buy a roll on deodorant next time you need to restock so make sure you look out for one next time your are shopping.
