    • 1). In order to work in Broward County, Florida as a substitute teacher,you have to get your official transcripts that say you have completed at least 60 credit hours of higher education in order to obtain your substitute teaching clearance.If your degree is from out of state you have provide a degree evaluation.     • 2). You then need to enroll in a substitute teacher training course. This is offered at Broward College in Coconut Creek, Florida. The cost is $65 and it is a total of 14 hours. You will receive a certificate when completed.     • 3). After you have completed substitute teacher training, you will need to be fingerprinted. They do an FBI background check. Be completely honest on the application, even if it is a minor offence that you do not think will show up. They are much more likely to let you teach with a minor offence than if you tell a lie. If caught in a lie, you will have to appeal, and this can take months. Just do not lie.

    • 4). You will need to have two references sent to Instructional Staffing before going in for clearance. Download the forms here: www.broward.k12.fl.us/teacher/ReferenceForm.pdf. One reference has to come from an employer whether current or former. Relatives cannot act as a reference for the substitute teaching application.

    • 5). You will need a social security card, drivers licence or official picture ID, offiicial transcripts, Substitute Teacher Training certificate, and INS card is applicable to take to the clearance office.

    • 6). Take all of these items to the K.C. Wright Administration Center. They are open Monday-Friday from 9AM to 3PM. The clearance center can be found in the K.C. Wright Administration Building, or School Board Building at 600 SE 3rd Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale.

    • 7). You can mail in references or education transcripts. Just be sure before you go that they have been received. Call: 754-321-3230 for more information on teaching requirements.

    • 8). Just because you complete the substitute teacher training you are not guaranteed a job. You have to be cleared in order to work as a substitute teacher.But if you want to work in education, you only need to have a level of an associate degree or 60 college credit hours. With this minimum you can obtain a job as a substitute or pool substitute teacher in the Broward County, Florida educational system.
