Fun Family Activities in Brevard County, Florida
- Nowhere else in the world is there such a collection of space-related activity than in Brevard County. Try to arrange your planned outing to coincide with a NASA launch. A number of viewing options exist that will not cost a dime. If there is no launch to witness, all is not lost. Visit the Space and Missile Museum (afspacemuseum.org), and go to the the Astronaut Hall of Fame (kennedyspacecenter.com/astronaut-hall-of-fame.aspx) and the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum (vacwarbirds.org).
- A visit to the zoo is always a popular family activity. Brevard Zoo (brevardzoo.org) between Melbourne and Rockledge has some 550 animals from 165 different species. Although just a small zoo as standards go, Brevard has introduced groundbreaking conservation programs that are the envy of many of the nation's zoos. Another nature sanctuary to visit is the Enchanted Forest (no website: 444 Columbia Blvd, Titusville: 321-264-5185). The family can spend hours enjoying this haven of flora just outside Titusville.
- A particularly interesting museum for the family is the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum (aphf.org). Others include Brevard Museum of Art and Science (brevardartmuseum.org), where there are hands-on exhibits suitable for kids, Brevard Museum of History and Science (brevardmuseum.org) and the Brevard Veterans' Memorial Museum (veteransmemorialcenter.org).
- Brevard County's parks include the Andretti Thrill Park (andrettithrillpark.com) where most of the rides are dedicated to children or the young at heart. The county also has a number of parks (brevardparks.com) where you can take the family for a day of fun. The parks have horse trails, fishing and boating, sailing, windsurfing, surfing, rowing, catamaran, canoes and kayaks. The county manages more than 100 parks for the public's benefit.
