How to Hang a Cheap Curtain Bracket

    • 1). Hang the curtains on the rod. Lift the curtain rod over the window. Raise or lower the rod until the bottom edge of the curtains falls at the desired length. Many people choose to have the curtains end around window sill level. Hold a level over the rod and mark its height along the bottom edge, on both the left and right side, onto either the wall or window molding.

    • 2). Lower the curtain rod from the window. Place one of the brackets against either the wall or the window molding. If you place it on the molding, it should be as close to the upper corner as possible. If you place it on the wall, it should be above the window molding's corner. Line up the portion of the bracket which supports the rod with the mark you made.

    • 3). Hold a torpedo level next to the bracket and adjust it so it is plumb on the wall. Mark the bracket's screw hole locations onto the wall and set the bracket aside. Mark the second bracket's screw holes onto the wall or window molding the same way you marked for the first bracket.

    • 4). Run a stud finder over the brackets' screw hole markings. If there is a stud under the markings or you are mounting the brackets onto the window molding, drill a 1/8-inch pilot hole through them and into the stud. If there is not a stud, drill a 1/4-inch pilot hole through the markings, then insert a 1/4-inch wall anchor into each hole. Tap the anchors with a hammer until they are flush with the wall's surface.

    • 5). Line up the brackets' screw holes with the pilot holes. Drive one of the provided screws through each hole to secure the bracket.
