Pool Sand Filter Installation
- 1). Pour sand into the pool filter. Read the manufacturer's directions to determine the appropriate sand amount.
- 2). Place the sand filter on the ground in close vicinity to a source of electricity. Ensure the ground is level to keep the propeller inside the filter from vibrating. Excessive vibrating can cause damage to the pool sand filter or render it inoperable.
- 3). Locate the pool sand filter's return, or the part of the filter where the filtered water re-enters the pool. Attach the return end of the filter to the pool's intake line using either a screw-on or clamp-on hose, depending on the style of the sand filter.
- 4). Locate the pool sand filter's intake, which should be positioned at the front of the pump basket. Connect the pool skimmer to the intake. Use an intake adapter, which can be found at many pool supply centers, to attach both the skimmer and main drain of the pool to the sand filter's intake.
- 5). Locate the air valve, which should be positioned at the top end of the pool sand filter. Open the valve to release any trapped air.
- 6). Plug the filter into the electricity source and switch it on. As soon as you notice water escaping from the air valve, indicating all trapped air has been vented, shut it off. Follow the sand filter's manufacturer's instructions regarding the proper maintenance schedule to clean your filter.
