How to Decorate a Garden Bird Bath with Live Flowers
- 1
Fill the garden bird bath with clean, fresh water. - 2
Choose the flowers. Roses look beautiful in a garden bird bath, and so do asters, dahlias, and other flowers that somewhat resemble floating water lilies. Make sure they're not sprayed with synthetic chemicals and be careful of florist flowers which can be chemical laden. You don't want birds drinking and bathing in chemicals. As "the canary in the coal mine" saying reminds us, birds are more sensitive to chemicals than we are. - 3
Cut the flowers to be put in your garden bird bath. Snip them to have about a 2-inch stem. - 4
Float flowers and re-cut underwater. Place the flowers in the garden bird bath water, then re-cut the stems to the length you need to allow them to float, but still have a little stem left (exact length depends on depth of water). By snipping them underwater, they won't seal in the open air and will drink up more water into their stems, making them last longer. - 5
Leave the blossoms in your garden bird bath while fresh. Remove when they begin to fade.
