If you are thinking about buying double glazing for your home and want to avoid getting ripped off then you definitely need to read every single word of this article.
As someone who has been involved in the noble art of selling for the last two decades I have to say that I get really upset by poor selling practice by pressure sales people.
This is especially true in consumer selling (selling to the public) and one industry which has had a notorious reputation is the double glazing, UPVC, replacement window market.
So if you are a potential buyer of new windows read on, I am going to show you some pitfalls to avoid and provide some insight into the tips and tricks used by certain unscrupulous individuals.
1) Looking for Show Homes Pitch - This is a classic technique in which the sales person tells you their company are actually looking for homes to use in your area as potential show homes that they can show to other perspective buyers.
They go on to tell you that if you agree to be one, they will give you a special discount for your trouble.
This is all nonsense and is just a negotiating tool used to get you to think you are getting a special deal.
Do not agree to this just ask them to give you their best price in writing.
2) The Sign Now Price - Some salesmen are so under pressure to get you to sign, they will offer you a discount of an inflated price if you agree to sign an order there and then.
This is not a good idea you need to be able to compare quotes in your own time.
Trust me if you go back to a company a week later and ask for that same offer price they will give it to you.
3) Avoid Salesmen - In fact the best double glazing companies in my opinion do not employ a huge team of sales people.
The ones that do inflate their prices in order to pay big commissions.
This can be as much as 20- 30% of the overall price you pay.
So it therefore follows if you deal with a company that maybe sends a member of their fitting team or a proper surveyor to come and discuss your requirements you should expect to get a better deal.
