Games That Last

BP: Why did you decide on medieval games? Are you a medievalist? Did people in medieval Europe use ceramic game boards?

Anna: I have never seen examples of ceramic game boards from the middle ages. In those times pottery items were very expensive. People would make games from spare pieces of wood and pieces out of wood or even horn and bone. The earliest known mancala game was scooped out of a rock ledge.

I am not a medievalist, although I do create some games that originated or were popular in the middle ages - ones that are still popular with the Renaissance faire community today. I have chosen my games because they have stood the test of so many generations of game players. The idea that we can sit down to play a game that people were playing up to thousands of years ago is very exciting to me.
