Basic Troubleshooting

• A toggle switch problem may indicate that one of the wires has a loose or interrupted connection at one of its ends. Alternatively, the switch may simply be sticking. To identify a faulty connection, you may be able to use a neon tester to determine if heat transfer is working correctly. In any case, make sure you practice proper electrical safety at all times, using the right equipment and shutting off any potentially dangerous current.

• If you experience a problem with home lighting and a toggle switch, remember you can't replace a toggle with any other type of switch such as a "rocker design." Any replacement of a toggle switch with an alternative form must take into account the location of the switch's respective terminals as well as the replacement's compatibility with a three-way switch in general.
