How to Fix a Trumpet Valve Not Going Into the Trumpet
- 1). Remove the valve that is sticking, if possible. Look for a number stamped into the side of the valve. Make sure it corresponds to the correct valve casing; the first valve should be closest to the mouthpiece, and the third valve closest to the bell. Move any incorrectly placed valves to their proper valve casings. If all valves are in their proper casings, proceed to the next step.
- 2). Oil the stuck valve. If you can remove the valve, remove it and clean the inside of the valve casing with the valve casing swab rod threaded with the cotton cloth. Pour a few drops of oil along the sides of the valve. Re-insert the valve. Press the valve to check for normal movement. If the valve cannot be removed, skip this step.
- 3). Oil the valve in its casing. Remove the cap at the bottom of the valve casing. Pour a few drops of oil onto the inside of the valve casing, placing the nozzle tip against the wall so that the oil flows along the walls of the casing. Press the valve to see if it begins to move. If some movement is detected, add a few more drops until the valve moves freely. If the valve remains stuck, take it to an instrument repair specialist.
