The Stride Rite Mission
To create shoes that foster healthy foot development in children. Each shoe is exposed to 30-40 tests to ensure proper fit and durability.
Stride Rite has been a highly trusted brand since 1919. That means, they've been dressing baby's feet for nearly 100 years! In that time, the company has evolved from a two-person operation, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, to an organization encompassing six brands with retail locations all around the world.
With such a strong foundation of experience and success behind them, it's no wonder millions of parents trust their baby's feet to Stride Rite.
A Stride Rite Overview
Stride Rite was started in 1892 by 17-year-old J.A. Slosberg, who was working for a shoe manufacturer. He and his business partner initially founded and set up the Green Shoe Manufacturing Company in 1919 in a converted stable. It was not until 1933 that they acquired the Stride Rite name from a previous children's shoe manufacturer. Throughout the 1900's, Stride Rite earned and held the position of being a leader in the children's footwear industry, and the company was passed from Slosberg to his two sons and a son-in-law.
It wasn't until 1972 that the first company-owned Stride Rite retail location was opened. Parents immediately fell in love with the expert fit provided by Stride Rite and loyal customers were born thanks to the commitment the company showed towards healthy foot development in children.
Today, Stride Rite is comprised of five brands (in addition to the original brand:
- Robeez
- Saucony
- Keds
- Sperry Top-Sider
- Jessica Simpson
In addition to its commitment to its customers, Stride Rite also pursues philanthropic endeavors through a partnership with Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.). In June of 2011, the company celebrated its fifth year with K.I.D.S., in which time they've donated more than $3 million dollars in new shoes to more than 280 nonprofit organizations both stateside and around the globe.
