How to Make a Three-Sided Cut
- 1). Take the measurements of the size of the cut with a tape measure. For instance, if you're tiling around a pipe, get the depth and width needed for the cut.
- 2). Place your tile or wood on a workbench and use the tape measure, along with a marker, to draw cut lines on the wood or tile.
- 3). Put on safety glasses, a dust mask and gloves. Place the marked tile or wood on a wet saw or table saw. Turn the saw on and make two cuts in the tile or wood as far apart as necessary, following the parallel lines down to the perpendicular line.
- 4). Start at the left side of the cut, inside the two parallel cuts in the tile or wood, making another parallel cut down to the perpendicular line drawn on the tile or wood.
- 5). Continue to go from left to right, inside the two primary parallel lines, cutting several parallel "slivers" down to the perpendicular line drawn on the wood or tile. You will have several parallel cuts in the tile or wood that are very slim when finished.
- 6). Snap out the individual slivers carefully; leave any attached that will not break off easily.
- 7). Place the tile or wood back into the saw, allowing the perpendicular line to touch the blade of the saw. Very slowly and steadily, push the tile or wood from right to left, knocking off the remaining slivers and evening up the perpendicular line at the same time. You have now made a three-sided cut.
