How to Use Red Mulch
- 1). Wait for a day when rain is not expected and you have not had rain for at least three to four days. Red mulch dye will rub off easily when it is fresh and applying it just after or just prior to rain will result in red stains on your landscaping edgers, sidewalks and driveways.
- 2). Put on gardening gloves and old clothes since they will probably become stained with the red dye mulch.
- 3). Remove all existing weeds and grass in the desired landscaping area by pulling them out with your hands.
- 4). Place the edge of a roll of weed barrier fabric at the end of the landscape area and roll it across to the opposite end. Cut the roll off using a pair of scissors. Return to the starting location and unroll a second strip of weed barrier, overlapping the first layer by 1/2 inch. Continue until the entire area is covered in weed barrier fabric.
- 5). Open a bag of red mulch and dump it on top of the weed barrier. If you had the red mulch delivered in bulk, transport it to the landscape area using a wheelbarrow.
- 6). Spread the red mulch out into an even layer using a wide-toothed rake. Add more red mulch as needed and spread it out until the layer of red mulch is between 2 and 3 inches thick.
