Certain materials are more suitable for cold weather while others are better suited for when the sun is shining.

Brocade is a woven material, which commonly has raised designs on it.
This is popular for when the weather is colder, however it is sometimes used in spring and summer as well.
Chiffon is a very delicate sheer textile that can appear almost transparent.
Most modern day chiffon is manufactured from a cellulose based fiber called rayon however it is still possible to get your hands on some that is made from silk.
Because of its appearance it is rarely used as part of the main dress body, but is instead employed in sleeves and wraps.
Organza is similar to chiffon is appearance as it is again somewhat transparent.
However, the difference between this and its other sheer counterpart is that it has a much stronger texture and provides an element of stiffness.
Because of this it can be used to a degree in skirts and gives a flowing effect to the gowns in which it is used.
Taffeta is a material that has been used for wedding dresses for a long period of time.
However, more recently its use has begun to be phased out.
It is still common on other dresses on the other hand, so you may find that if it is not present on the bridal gown, then it may be a component of the bridesmaids' attire.
Tulle is one of the more commonly found materials.
It is principally used to make the skirt part of the gown and is comprised of silk or nylon.
It forms fine netting that has an element of transparency to it similar to a tutu worn by a ballerina.
