How to Replace a 2000 Honda Accord Stereo

    • 1). Pull the hood release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the Accord. Move to the front of the car and lift the hood. Loosen the bolt that holds the negative (black) cable to the negative battery terminal with the wrench. Lift the cable from the terminal and set it aside. Move to the inside of the Honda.

    • 2). Slide the trim panel removal tool into the crease at the top of the dashboard clock housing. Pry the panel from the dashboard and disconnect the wiring from the back of the clock. Remove the screw in the back of the opening in the dashboard with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3). Remove the two screws at the bottom of the trim panel that surrounds the stereo and climate controls with the screwdriver. Grab the bottom of the panel and pull it away from the dashboard. Remove the four screws at the corners of the stereo bracket with the screwdriver. Slide the factory stereo from the stereo dock and disconnect the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the unit.

    • 4). Slide the faceplate adapter into the stereo dock. Pull the stereo wiring and antenna cable through to the front of the dashboard. Plug the stereo wiring connectors into the wiring harness adapter leads.

    • 5). Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the appropriate outlets on the back of the new stereo. Plug the antenna cable into the FM antenna outlet on the new head unit's rear panel. Slide the stereo into the faceplate adapter until it locks into place.

    • 6). Place the dashboard panel back over the stereo and climate controls. Replace the two screws at the bottom of the panel and the single screw in the clock opening. Plug the electrical wiring connector from the clock opening to the back of the clock and replace it into the dashboard. Press firmly on the clock assembly to snap it back into place.

    • 7). Replace the negative cable on the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable's clamp to the terminal with the wrench. Close the Accord's hood.
