It is the leading force in the blindness field today and the voice of the nation's blind." The NFB operates the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, a research and training center. The NFB offers the following programs:
- NFB Link - pairs individuals seeking information with experienced Federationists
- NFB Newsline - a digital talking newspaper for the blind
- Race for Independence - blind driver challenge
- NFB Youth Slam - a four-day event to encourage youth to consider careers in science, technology, math and engineering

- Braille is Beautiful - teaches sighted students how to read and write in braille

- Possibility Fair for Seniors
