    • 1). Gather the materials. This includes 2 8x2 boards that are at least 1 inch thick, several 2x4 boards, a sheet of plywood, nails and sheet metal.

    • 2). Lay the two 8x2 boards on a long bench or pair of saw horses so they are lined up next to each other.

    • 3). Cut four 2x4 boards to 14" long, just shorter than the total width of the 8x2 boards. 8x2 boards are about 7 1/2 inches wide. These are going to be cross braces for the ramp.

    • 4). Using a power driver and 2" long wood screw, secure the first 2x4 across the two boards about six inches from one end. Drive the screw through the ramp boards first and then into the 2x4 so the screw tip does not come up through the ramp itself. Repeat this process, setting a 2x4 board every two feet along the ramp.

    • 5). Attach the metal ramp edge to the end of the boards by drilling matching holes into the boards and bolting the metal ramp ledge to the board itself.
