How to Write a Source Card for an Internet Source
- 1). Write down the last name and then first name of the author. If no author cited is cited, write down the name of the organization. For example, you may cite either "Smith, Joe," or "The American Society of Cookie Addicts."
- 2). Write down the title of the Internet article in quotation marks. For example, you may cite the title as "Conquering Your Cookie Addiction in 12 Easy Steps."
- 3). Write down the publishing date, or the date of last update, for the article. You may find this information by scrolling to the bottom of the web page. Remember that when you cite a date, you will need to do so in "date/month/year" format. For example, the publishing date for your article may have been "15 March 2008."
- 4). Write down the URL for the article's web page. For example, the web page on which you found the cookie addiction article may be located at "http://www.cookieaddicts.org/conquering.html."
- 5). Write down the access date, or the date when you last retrieved the web page. Like the publishing date, you will need to write this in "date/month/year" format. For example, you may have accessed the web page on "31 October 2009."
- 6). Assign your source card a number or letter. This for your own reference only and helps you to keep track of your sources in notes without having to write down the complete name of the source each time. For example, you might refer to "Conquering Your Cookie Addiction in 12 Easy Steps" in your notes as source "3" or "B."
