How to Do Wall Tiles

    • 1). Wipe the wall down with a dry cloth, removing any debris or dust that might interfere with the tile adhesive. Lay the tile out on the floor directly below the wall or close to the wall where you're working. Arrange the tile in the exact pattern you plan to use on the wall.

    • 2). Place the trowel directly in the tile adhesive and spread it along one area of the wall. Use the straight edge or side of the trowel to spread out an even layer of the tile adhesive. Work in small areas at a time to keep the adhesive from drying out.

    • 3). Turn the trowel over and hold it at a 45 degree angle. Run the trowel over the tile adhesive, using the combed or notched side. The notched side smooths out the adhesive and creates a uniform height on the adhesive, which keeps one area from looking higher.

    • 4). Set a tile flush against one corner of the room, where you spread the adhesive. Press the tile against the adhesive and gently twist it once before pushing it down. Repeat the process with other tiles, twisting each one before pushing it into the adhesive.

    • 5). Add more tile adhesive to the wall and install the next row or area of wall tiles. Follow the same process: spreading out the tile adhesive and then rubbing it down with the notched side of the trowel. Repeat the process until you cover all areas of the wall. Cover the tiles with small pieces of masking tape, to keep the tiles in place until the adhesive dries.
