Users who do not have access to Wi-Fi or do not own an iPod Touch can also get movies to their device from Netflix through DVDs with digital copies. As iPods and other video devices have grown in popularity, most film studios will package a digital copy along with a motion picture DVD release. Unfortunately, most of these are included on a bonus disc that will not ship when you rent it from Netflix, but there are a handful of examples where the digital copy has been included as a DVD-ROM extra. These versions can be obtained from Netflix and transferred to a video-compatible iPod. An example of a film that includes the digital copy in this manner is "JCVD" from Peace Arch Entertainment. - Movies can also be purchased on iTunes for playback on an iPod.Justin Sullivan/Getty Images News/Getty Images
IPod users who do not have an iPod Touch can also try other video services to get movies on their device. While these services will not be covered under your Netflix membership, they offer a way to download movies to your iPod. The most convenient example is Apple's iTunes Store, which has thousands of movies available for purchase as a digital download. These files are already formatted to play on iPod devices. Also, there are several public domain films available for free in iPod compatible formats at archive.org.
