How to Add Transparency to Existing GIF Photoshop Elements
- 1). Double-click on the Photoshop Elements to boot up the program. Click on the "File" menu and select "Open." Find the .gif image you wish to edit on your hard drive and select it. Click on "Open." Elements will now load your image.
- 2). Go to the "Layers" menu in the main menu bar and select "Duplicate Layer." Go to the Layers window in the lower right-hand corner of your screen and click on the eye symbol next to the "Background Layer." This will turn that layer invisible.
- 3). Select the "Magic Wand" tool from the toolbar on the left-hand side of your screen. Click on the background of the image. It will select the background according to color. Press the "Backspace" button to delete the background. Elements should now show you a gray grid behind your image. This signifies that the background is transparent.
- 4). Go to the "File" menu and select "Save for Web." A pop-up window will appear with several settings in it. Select .gif for the file type and click the box next to "Transparency" to turn transparency on.
- 5). Click on "Okay." Elements will ask you to name the file. Enter a file name and click on "Save" to save it to your hard drive.
