Parents are your kids making the rules in your house? Are they the ones saying what they will do and when they will do it? Do you remember when you were kids and if you ever misbehaved you got the belt or some other foreign object across the bottom? I definitely remember those days, but now if you even touch your child somebody will question your methods. Yep the good ole days of spankings are coming to an end, but how can we discipline our kids and teach them respect?

Our kids aren't afraid to get into trouble like we were when we were young. They know we aren't going to spank them or really give them any other form of punishment other than yelling, or maybe a time-out here and there. Let's be real though, does anyone really think time-outs work, honestly? So they go sit in a corner for a while by themselves. You think the punishment outweighs what they did to deserve it, and don't even think of sending them to their room. Now, they have television, video games, and internet. It would be more of a punishment to have to stay near you.

So since we can't resort to the old ways of spanking we need to find new ways to teach our kids discipline, and time-outs aren't going to cut it. We need to spend time with our kids and understand why they are acting the way they do. Why are your kids acting out? Why do they throw tantrums when they don't get what they want, or you tell them to do something you don't want them to do? Let's face it, kids are a lot smarter now with all the technology and benefits they have now, that we don't even understand our own kids.
