How to Create a Boot Disc in XP
- 1). Click your Windows XP "Start" button. Click "My Computer" to open a window where you navigate to the "i386" folder. Double-click "C" to open a list of folders. Double-click "i386" to open the folder.
- 2). Click "Start" again and then click "My Computer." This opens a second window where you copy the boot files to the blank CD.
- 3). Insert the blank CD into the drive. In the i386 folder window, right-click NTLDR and select "Copy." Right-click the CD-ROM burner drive in your second window and select "Paste." Do this same step with the "NTdetect.com" file.
- 4). Click "Start." Click "All Programs," click "Accessories" and choose "Notepad" to open the text editor. You need Notepad to create the third boot file named "boot.ini."
- 5). Type the following into the Notepad window:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows="Windows XP Professional" - 6). Click Notepad's "File" menu item and select "Save As." Select your CD-ROM burner in the location section. Type "boot.ini" in the "File name" text box. Choose "All Files" from the "File type" drop-down. Click "Save" to create the final boot file.
