So you want to build a tiki bar, huh? The wooden bar area underneath the thatched wood is usually made from hand crafted kiln dried Cyprus wood. This is one of highest quality woods on the market today. Right above the bar is a leak proof thatched roof, made from fresh cut Florida sable palm leaves. So if by chance you are ever caught out in the rain you can stay dry.

How long will the palm fronds on the roof last? Well palm fronds usually last about five to seven years. This time frame really depends on the weather conditions in the area you live in. One thing you should know is that wind will play a major factor in the lifespan of your thatched roof.

Underneath the thatched roof is a three speed ceiling fan and light, which allows you to be able to use bar in the evening, so it is not just a daytime tiki bar.

If you look at the dimensions, you will see that the roof is 1ten feet high, and has a nine foot diameter. The bar itself is three feet 6 inches wide and has a height of five feet. The completed bar will weigh about eight hundred pounds, hence sometimes the reference to the eight hundred pound gorilla.

When looking at number of days, how long will it take you to build one? I think this all depends on your experience as a handy man. You will probably have the most difficulty with the roof framing and the the different angles that come with the plans. However, do not worry yourself too much if you just take a little extra time to study the plans it will all be clearer and much easier to understand.

This simple design is great for an entry level tiki bar. As far as price goes if you were to purchase this already made, you maybe looking at the three thousand five hundred range, although sometimes you can often find deals of up to five hundred dollars off.
