History:

The Hero Initiative started when comic journalist Jim McClauchlin was talking one day to Mark Alessi, then the owner and operator of Crossgen. Jim was remarking that it would be great to help out some of comics creators who had fallen on hard times and were not able to make the kind of money that today’s creators were making.

Also being involved in the sports industry, where something similar was taking place, Jim’s comment took root in Mark, who just happened to be keeping lawyers on retainer. A few weeks later, the non-profit was born.
Under the leadership of some of comics top creative talent such as Joe Quesada, Brian Pulido, Jim Valentino, George Perez, Roy Thomas, Dennis O’Neil, and others, The Hero Initiative is working to make life better for those that have made life so enjoyable for the rest of us. They can often be seen at comic conventions with auctions and events that give fans something for helping out creators in need.
