    Building Homemade Gifts

    • 1). Writing a poem on a homemade card is one of the most effective ways of building a romantic gift. All you need to do is take some scratch paper, write a few words expressing your feelings (often the first thing that comes to mind is best), and then copy the poem nicely onto a decorated card.

For the card, all you need to do is take a piece of nice paper, or even construction paper, and design a border within which to write your poem. You can either do this by cutting and gluing a pattern border or by drawing a nice border with a variety of markers.

    • 2). If you want to create something a little more ambitious than a poem, or if you just don't feel like writing, you can just a easily and cheaply make a scrapbook. All you need to do in this case is locate a three-ring binder, get some scrapbooking photo paper (the old-fashioned kind with the adhesive side and protective sheath), and compile some meaningful "scraps", such as photos, old movie tickets or any other memorabilia, or maybe even things you have written in the past. If you can't find enough of these things, you can always cut out appropriate images and text from magazines and newspapers that help express your feelings.

After you have put together between three to five pages of memorable items make sure to decorate the cover and dedicate the scrapbook to your significant other -- they're sure to love it!

    • 3). If a poem and a scrapbook don't meet your needs -- perhaps you are not a poet and don't have the necessarily materials to compose a scrapbook -- one final fail-safe option is to build a compliment box. A compliment box is simply any small box, ideally a shoe box, that you decorate and put compliments inside for your loved one or romantic interest to read.

First, locate a box and decorate it using construction paper, glue, and markers. Then cut a little slit in the top of the box for slipping compliments through. Then write three or four compliments on separate sheets of paper -- anything nice and/or romantic -- and put them in the box.

Your loved one will be overtaken by this thoughtful and ambitious gift. Plus, it's the gift that keeps on giving -- just keep adding compliments as you feel appropriate.
