How to Repair & Sew Leather Boots
- 1). Wet two washcloths in a bucket of warm water, and ring them out. Apply a little soap to the first rag, and wash the surface area of the leather boots several times. Use the second rag to rinse the surface area. Towel dry the surface area of the leather boots, and let stand until completely dry. Apply leather conditioner after boots are dry, and allow the leather conditioner to penetrate the leather for 24 hours.
- 2). Fix any raised or torn areas in the leather either by trimming down with a scissors or applying the repair compound as an adhesive. Trim off any excess material with the scissors, and sand down the area of the leather boots with the 320 grit sandpaper to smooth out. Use rubbing alcohol to wipe down the area the same as if you were cleaning it. Allow the leather boots to dry. Apply the repair compound to any other areas needing repair and allow your leather boots to dry.
- 3). Wipe the boots with rubbing alcohol, or use a 600 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface area if needed. Be careful using the rubbing alcohol though. If you wipe the leather boots too much, you may remove too much of the repair compound.
- 4). Apply the leather color restorer to the surface area of your leather boots. Apply in several coats to allow for flexibility in the material. Make sure the surface area is free of dust and particles. When the boots are completely dry, sand the surface area until smooth and apply another coat of color restorer. Allow the boots to completely dry.
- 5). Apply leather conditioner to your leather boots, and allow the boots to dry.
