How do I Remove a Right-Handed Lever From a Door?
- 1). Pull down on the lever to release the striker bolt and open the door to reveal the edge and give access to the levers on both sides. Wedge a doorstop under the end of the door to secure it and make removing the lever easier.
- 2). Check the bottom of the base plate of your lever lock set for mounting screws. If the screws are face mounted there will be two of them with Phillips heads. If you cannot see the screws, check the edge of the base plate for a small, rectangular tab. Press the tab to release the base plate and reveal the screws.
- 3). Turn the two mounting screws counterclockwise using a screwdriver to loosen. Twist the screws with fingertips until they fall loose from the door. Place the screws in a small sandwich bag or stick them to a piece of adhesive tape to prevent losing them.
- 4). Grasp the levers on both sides of the door in both hands and pull out firmly to release the spindle and withdraw it from the spindle hole in the lock set's striker bolt. Pull the spindle completely out of the door and set the handles aside.
- 5). Loosen and remove the two mounting screws located in the lock set striker bolt faceplate located on the edge of the door even with the lock set hole in the face of the door. Turn the screws counterclockwise and remove them.
- 6). Insert a small, flat screwdriver through the spindle hole in the lockset striker bolt and push it toward the edge of the door to loosen the striker bolt. Grab the bolt firmly and pull it from the door.
- 7). Reinsert the two halves of the lever lock set through the lock set striker bolt and thread the two long mounting screws from the base plate back into their places to keep the parts together for future reinstallation or recycling. Stick the two small mounting screws from the striker bolt faceplate to a piece of adhesive tape and wrap it around the lever handle to keep them with the lock set.
