How to Buy and Use Traveler's Checks
- 1). Choose an institution through which to buy the checks. This is generally accomplished at a bank or other financial institution. The checks are purchased in the desired denominations and must be signed at the top by the purchaser in front of a teller or clerk.
- 2). Locate a store on your vacation that accepts traveler's checks. The establishment may display a sign indicating it accepts the checks, or you can ask a store associate.
- 3). Present your items to the store clerk. When the clerk gives you the total price, present enough traveler's checks to cover the cost.
- 4). Sign the check at the time of purchase where indicated, generally at the bottom of the check. The check must be signed in front of the store clerk; you may also be asked for picture identification.
- 5). Collect your change, if any. Any change given will be in the currency of your location, such as a euro in France or a pound in England.
