How to Implement an HPV Screening Program
- 1). Find a doctor that is willing to cooperate. Screening tests are performed by a doctor at a medical facility. This means implementing a screening test for HPV requires a doctor that is willing to set up the screening in their office or lab and has the skills to screen for HPV.
- 2). Select a specific group for screening. Screening tests are often set up for schools or for specific organizations. In HPV screening, girls are the primary recipients for screening because of their relationship to cervical cancer. Many screening programs also are for specific age groups, such as college-aged girls.
- 3). Determine the type of screening available. The most common screening for HPV is cervical cancer screening tests, which find the virus when testing for cancer. Another option is DNA testing, which looks for HPV.
- 4). Provide treatment options. Whenever HPV is detected, treatment for the symptoms is available. Women or girls that don't have HPV can get a vaccination to help protect them from getting four types of HPV.
