    • 1). Locate the buttons that control your Dell flat screen display. Most recent models will have a series of four or five buttons located near the bottom right corner.

The power button is always a dedicated button located closest to the right corner. Next to the power button you will see two buttons imprinted or embossed with a plus sign and a minus sign. You will also see a menu button, generally marked with a square symbol containing a list of lines. There may also be a fifth button marked with a rectangular symbol pierced by an arrow.

    • 2). Turn the power on and press the monitor's "Menu" button. If you find the button icons difficult to see, try the fourth button to the left of or above the lighted power button first, as this is most likely to be the menu button on a Dell monitor. When you select the correct button, a list of monitor options will pop up on the display.

    • 3). Navigate to the "Brightness" control using the plus and minus signs to move through the list of menu options. Once "Brightness" is highlighted, press the "Menu" button again to activate this control. Pressing "Menu" while the display menu is already active is equivalent to pressing the "Enter" key on a keyboard, in that it confirms a choice.

    • 4). Use the plus and minus buttons to select "Brightness" a second time if necessary, then press "Menu." This is necessary when your model lists both "Brightness" and "Contrast" on the same menu sub-screen.

    • 5). Press or press and hold the "Plus" button to increase the screen's brightness, or the "Minus" button to make the screen dimmer. Make adjustments until you are satisfied, and then press "Menu" and select "Exit" to exit the menu immediately, or simply wait a few seconds for the menu to disappear automatically.
