    • 1). Moisturize the hair. Provide the scalp, body and ends of the hair with plenty of oil or cream based moisturizer. Evenly distribute moisturizer in the hair to ensure that the hair is as smooth as possible. This will allow for the braiding and the application of beads to be done without a lot of discomfort for the child. Choose a hair moisturizer from a local beauty supplier or beauty salon.

    • 2). Braid the hair. Choose a style of braiding for your child's hair. Part the hair into sections and begin braiding in thin sections from the root. Incorporate the pieces of string into the bottom of the braid, leaving the string longer than the end of the braid so it can be removed in the next steps. Maintain even, thin braids that will be narrow enough to accommodate the beads. Secure the ends of each braid with an elastic or rubber band.

    • 3). Add the beads Choose a color scheme or pattern of beads that you want to work with. Create an upside down loop with the string and loop the beads through the elastic. Pull the beads all the way through the string and secure the beads at the end by tying into a knot.
