How to Use Photos for Xmas Ornaments

    • 1). Before creating an ornament, it's critical to select the right photo. The best options are close-ups of a face. Choose one with a great expression. You can choose one with more than one person in it, but the images will be fairly small and less engaging. Photos showing an action, like your child waterskiing or building a snowman, will be very hard to see.

    • 2). When digital cameras took off, so too did opportunities to create cool, personalized products, and now many stores offer a surprising array of options. All you need to bring to the store is a digital photo on a memory card. You will then be asked to select a style of ornament--a ball or frame, among other things--and the photo will be printed on the ornament. Typically, this print can be easily scratched, so be gentle. Some of the stores that offer such services are Target, Walgreens, and Costco.

    • 3). There are also many websites that can turn your digital photo into an ornament. Snapfish.com and Shutterfly.com have extensive product offerings. If you decide to pursue a web option, you will typically need to select the product and upload the photo from your computer.

Many websites allow you to edit the photo online to make it fit on the product in the way that you like. However, if you need to do a lot of "fixing", you may want to do this on your computer before you upload the photo. This can save time and headaches.

Once again, the photo will be printed onto the ornament, so be careful not to scratch the finished product.

    • 4). Another option is to take a photo that you've printed and insert it into a frame ornament. This type of ornament is found nearly anywhere that ornaments are sold. They come in all shapes and sizes and include a slot into which you slide the photo. Look for frames that are lightweight so that they don't weigh down the tree branch.
