How to Earn Respect From Kids

    • 1). Respect your child. Instead of ordering him to turn down his music, ask him to turn it down. Always show your appreciation by saying thank you after your child has done something for you.

    • 2). Set an example. It isn't fair to expect your child to be respectful if you show disrespect towards others. If you are trying to teach your child not to tease or berate others, do not make fun of people on the street while she is present.

    • 3). Spend time with your child. Read him a book, take him on a walk or play a board game with him. Spending time with your child will let him know that you enjoy being around him.

    • 4). Be honest with your child. If you told her that you would take her to the movies over the weekend, keep your word. Do not promise your child anything if you know you can't keep the promise.

    • 5). Do something kind for another person. Invite your neighbor for dinner or donate clothes to a homeless shelter. When your child sees you being kind to others, he will respect you.
