Three Ways to Dramatically Improve Your First Internet Business
My wife and I started a small internet business online about 3 years ago. Our first business was a premium bath and body line which enjoyed quick success. We followed that up by building a series of different online companies each focused on different revenue sources. In the past three years we've learned that there is currently unlimited potential online, and with the right guidance, anyone can have success. Compiled herein are three simple keys to dramatically improving your first internet business.
First, in order to succeed you have to get started. We have found that you will have more success when you have an online enterprise rather than a website. What I mean by this that you can earn just as much money in less time by having multiple sites than a single website that you pour your entire heart and soul into. You may not know exactly what it is that you want to do, but get started with something until you do decide, if you decide that you want to work on something else instead, fine, build a new website, link your old site and new site together, and start building again. Your new site will grow faster because it has been linked with the old site, and the old site will continue to grow because of it's links. The point is that your entire online network grows together, so no matter in what direction you are working, that work is contributing to your efforts.
Second, find someone who knows what they are doing who can help. The biggest expense I've encounterd in my own online businesses was my own ignorance. When I started my first company, I knew nothing about the internet. That was the day I learned what HTML was, and then started learning how to write it. Over the past three years, my understanding of the best ways to do things and the best tools to have has evolved dramatically, and had I known what I know now, I would not have spent tens of thousands of dollars on less effective tools and inefficient methods. You will find nothing as valuable as a mentor to guide you.
Third, start with a business model that fits your financial investment. If you don't have any money to invest in your online business your options for success are very very limited. If you are doing it alon, you will need to put out some money and the type of business you have will depend on how much you are able to invest. An online store costs money to own and run. You need to have a credit card processing system, you need to buy a secure e-commerce platform, and you need marketing tools. If you can't afford $500 per month for a couple of years, you are going to have a very difficult time, instead, start with a simple blog with advertising in the sidebar or an affiliate program where you only need to put out 50 to 60 per month for hosting and marketing. The long term revenue of a store is going to be higher, but in the short term, you cash flow will remain positive enabling expansion when you are ready and able to invest more.
Anyone can be successful online, but if you want to be successful in the most efficient way, use these keys to get started.
