Jodhpur, the very important city of Rajasthan, has a rich monumental legacy and is the epicenter of Indian tourism. This city is one of the most sought after cities by the foreign tourists in India. Founded by Rao Jodha in the year 1459, the city was also called as Marwar in the earlier era. The city is also called the Sun City and was ruled by the Rathores who enjoyed good relations with the Mughals. This city shines like the jewel in the desert necklace and from here one can see the beautiful barren backdrop of the desert. The fusion of forts and palaces in the kingdom of Marwar makes the region a hot spot for the tourists who have the passion to see the eastern architecture styles. Apart from being called the Sun City, Jodhpur is also called the blue city because of the blue colored buildings here. Bathe in the special charm of the monuments and these include Ganesh temple, Shiva temple, Government museum, Umaid bhavan palace, Jaswant thada fort, Mehrangarh fort. The Balasamand palace and Hall of heroes are worth seeing attractions. The latter is located in a place near the place called Mandore.  Jodhpur is a place of monumental beauty and one can experience this by visiting the 19th century cenotaph called Jaswant Thada. Built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, this monument is a testimony of architectural brilliance. Another elegant palace of Jodhpur is the famous Rai ka bagh palace constructed in the year 1663. Here, one sees the beautiful octagonal bungalow. One of the much exotic palaces of exceptional design in Jodhpur is Umaid Bhavan palace. This palace has a distinct aura and is a fusion of Victorian and Rajput styles of architecture. In the earlier times, this palace was called the Chittar palace and the foundation stone was laid by Maharaja Umaid Singh. With 347 rooms of fabulous design, this is among the world's largest private residences and is the official residence of Maharaja Gaj Singh. A part of this place is one of the finest heritage hotels of Rajasthan overtaken by the Taj Group.

 The Mehrangarh fort of Jodhpur is definitely the star attraction of the city. This is the strong fort depicting the true spirit of the Rathore rulers. This fort came into existence in the fifteenth century and one can find seven gates of entrance. With many palaces inside the fort, this is a star attraction and on the top floor of the fort, there is a toph [cannon]. Other monumental attractions in the city are Sur Sagar palaces. Outside the palaces, there are large open grounds. Visit the two famous museums of the city by the name Umaid Bhavan palace museum and Mehrangarh fort museum. Both have the rich collection of artifacts. In the Maha Mandir temple, there are eighty four pillars of wonderful design and one becomes still on seeing the sculptures of the yoga postures. In the Asik Bihari temple, one finds the pillars of red sandstone and the overall texture of this temple of Sri Krishna is quite appealing. This is the temple of Lord Mahavishnu. The filigree work of Raj Ranchhodji temple is quite awesome. In the Udai Mandir, one finds one hundred and two pillars. The golden pictures of nath yogis and the fascinating wall paintings are quite appealing.

Jodhpur is an incredible place not only for the forts and palaces but also because of the gardens as well. Move a distance of nine km from Jodhpur to reach the Mandhore garden. Here one finds the high rock terrace making it a wonderful attraction. There is another fabulous garden called Umed Garden named after Maharaja Umed Singh. The green lawns, fountains, Ashoka trees and roses make this an awesome spot to visit. The seasonal blooming flowers of this garden release a fragrance and the aroma lasts for life.  Jodhpur Lakes and dams are among the cherished tourist attractions. Visit the famous Kalyana Lake constructed by Maharaja Pratap Singh in the year 1872. Another beautiful lake is the famous Balasamand Lake constructed in the year 1159Ad and here, one finds the groves of the fruit trees including mango. Move a distance of seven km from the city of Jodhpur in order to reach this lake. Another fascinating attraction of Jodhpur is the Sardar Samand Lake and Palace. This is definitely the charm of the photographer and one can finds the black bucks here.  The festivals of Jodhpur are a very important part of the tourist enjoyment here. Come here during the time of the famous Marwar festival and enjoy the best of the folk dances here. One will also love to enjoy the classic folk music here and the traditional folk artists are well versed in this field. The other three important festivals of Jodhpur are Nagaur, Gangaur and Teej. Gangaur is the festival during which women pray for their husbands and virgins pray for getting good husbands to Shiva and consort Parvati. Jodhpur falls in the golden triangle regions of Rajasthan. The other two regions of golden triangle Rajasthan are Jaisalmer and Bikaner.
