How to Train to Be a Massage Therapist in Minnesota
- 1). Find a massage therapy school in your area. Natural Healers features a list of all current institutions offering massage therapy training programs. A massage therapy school should teach various techniques to prepare students for work in a spa, fitness facility or medical office. The school must be licensed by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and be accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA).
- 2). Enroll in the school of your choice. Upon enrollment you may be required to pay a down payment or the entire tuition cost. Massage therapy programs may require students to pay for textbooks and supplies; this information will be provided during enrollment. Financial aid may be available.
- 3). Complete the program. The duration of a massage therapy program depends on the specific type of training. Most massage therapy programs can be completed with six to 12 months of full-time study.
- 4). After graduating, check with the city or county requirements for a massage therapy license. As of 2010, Minnesota does not offer a state-wide massage therapy license. Instead, individual counties or cities license massage therapists.
