Have you recently lost a cat? Do you think there is something wrong with grieving because other people may say "it was just a pet"? Many pet owners are very grieved and are not sure how to deal with the loss of a cat.
When I lost my beloved companion, it was not easy to accept he was gone.
I knew it was very understandable to miss him, and to be upset about his death.
As pet owners, we have a special bond with them, and it's normal to grieve over the loss.
While some people you know may sympathize the best support often comes from others who also have a pet, for they understand better than anyone the attachment we have to them.
If you need someone to discuss your feelings of loss and sadness, many communities now have support groups you can call for help.
Often it's easier to talk to someone you don't know but who has been through the same situation.
Often just having someone who will listen without judgement can be a big relief.
You can take comfort in the fact you provided your cat with love and a good home.
Pets need to know someone loves and cares about them, the same as we do.
Thinking of the positive things you provided for him or her, as they did for you, should help as well.
As for when you should get another cat, there really is no right or wrong answer to that.
You will know when it is the right time.
Some people want another one right away, and for others it takes weeks or months.
Some decide they will never have another one.
Your new cat will probably be nothing like your previous one, but you will love and appreciate them in their own way.
